Hand in Hand: Communication & Literature

This is a great workshop for developmental therapists conducting language enrichment therapy and for anyone working with young children!  This hands-on workshop offers:

• Strategies to get all children and parents loving literature!
• Sensory integrated techniques for incorporating Augmentative/Alternative Communication, speech sounds social skills, and expressive/receptive language goals into story-sharing experiences
• Attention grabbing hints for making communicative interactions more positive and more frequent
• Make-and-Take materials including strategy sheets, story enhancers, and a book for each participant

How long:  2 1/2 hours

For Age group:  Appropriate for caregivers of children ages 3-8

Cost:  $20/person

SOUNDS of Success for Young Children--Level 1*: Sounds Abound in Daily Activities

SOUNDS of Success for Young Children--Level 2*:  Sounds Abound in Music, Literature, Art & Movement

SOUNDS of Success for Young Children--Level 3*:  Sounds Abound through the Senses

These classes are specifically tailored to provide strategies to caregivers/parents for meeting the needs of young children who have articulation delays, speech sound goals, or have difficulty making themselves understood by others!

These hands-on workshops focus on:

• Utilizing speech production strategies in various everyday activities including cooking, cleaning up, reading, playing, moving, etc.
• Techniques for stimulating new sounds and generalizing established speech sounds.
• Increasing the frequency of vocalizations and/or verbalizations made by children.
• Providing parents/caregivers with materials they can make and take home including strategy sheets, communication enhancers, and more!
• Using sensory integrated activities to encourage speech sound development!

*Though it is best to attend these workshops in order.  It is not a requirement that a participant attend Level 1 prior to Level 2 or Level 3.

How long:  2 1/2 hours

Making Connections for Kinesthetic Kids:  Communication for Active Children

This communication workshop is specifically tailored to help caregivers meet the needs of children who have delays in communication and who also:  have difficulty maintaining attention, are very active, are hyposensitive, need to move or touch to learn, or who are kinesthetic/tactile learners.  This hands-on workshop offers:

• Strategies to engage children with decreased attention in communicative interactions.
• Techniques for incorporating movement and touch in the practice of speech sounds, social skills, Augmentative/Alternative Communication, expressive and receptive language production. 
• Sensory integrated games, daily living adaptations, music, and more to help make communicative interactions more positive and more frequent.
• Make-and-Take materials to help carryover at home.

How long:  2 1/2 hours

For Age Group:  Appropriate for caregivers of children ages 0-6

Cost:  $20/person

Parent-to-Child Workshops:  For parents or caregivers and children to participate and learn together...A parent or caregiver is required to attend with each child as the goal of these workshops is to assist in carryover of communication goals at home and in daily activities!   

Communication for Kinesthetic Kids: Speech Sounds in Action

Parents and children are invited to attend this workshop specifically tailored toward kids who love to move and who have speech sound delays or are late-talking!  This is a family-centered class with parents learning strategies and then immediately putting them into action with their young children.  Help your child learn to love to speak!   

How long:  1 hour

For Age Group:  Appropriate for children ages 0-6 with their caregivers.

Cost:  This workshop occurs one time/month for three consecutive months.  You may come to one, two, or all three of the workshops.  Each session is $15/child.  Pre-payment for all three workshops will result in a $5 discount. 

Communication Cooks!--For School-Agers

Parents and school-agers with communication delays, from social skills to speech sounds, are invited to attend this workshop which incorporates communication into the fun of cooking!  We'll be making ice cream in a bag, some gross snacks, and more!  Come to learn communication strategies for snack time, meal time, and sharing time! Come enjoy the learning and fun!   

How long:  1 hour

For Age Group:  Appropriate for children ages 7-12 with their caregivers.

Cost:  This workshop occurs one time/month for three consecutive months with different activities and strategies planned for each session. You may come to one, two, or all three of the workshops.  Each session is $15/child.  Pre-payment for all three workshops will result in a $5 discount.
